Quinn is actually a cockatoo and I want to tell you a little bit about cockatoos today.

Quinn is actually a Goffin’s cockatoo (one of the smaller cockatoos). Cockatoos, in general, are medium to larger-sized birds, depending upon what type of cockatoo, and they’re wonderful, wonderful, sweet birds but they’re really not for the novice bird owner because they really need a lot of daily attention. They’re native to Australia and as I said, there are different kinds of cockatoos. Some are about his size and they go all the way up to much larger-sized birds. They do need a lot of daily attention or they will scream and they will feather-pick and they will yell, but if you do have time to spend with them, they’re very intelligent. They love to come out and cuddle with their owners. They have the reputation of being sort of the velcro of birds. They like to cuddle. They like to watch TV. They’re very, very devoted to their owners, and they’re very, very sweet.

So if you’re thinking of having a bird for a very long time, 30 to 50 years, and you have the time to spend with them and give them all the attention that they need every day, you might consider a cockatoo.

Cockatoos or “velcro” birds are very clingy.
